Tournament Legends
Around the rink there are lots of stories
that are told. Some are told with a hint of truth, some are told with only the
basis of heavy drinking, others may just be true. We Have been told that many
years ago a couple of puck heads from Rochester were left with no tournament to
play in. So they created their own and......

Norm is the one of the biggest fans of
the sport that one will ever meet. He loves the game, loves to hang out
at the rink, and is a man that truly enjoys the real Minnesota way of
life. You can find Norm in an ice shack, cruising in his or at the
closest rink that has drop in hockey. Norm is a native of the area and
legend has it that he has been on skates since the age of two. That
means he is now approaching 100 years on the ice… this fella
really knows the game. Many years ago Norm and his buddies participated
in an annual ole’man hockey tournament held in Northfield Minnesota. For
some reason this tourney folded and left Norm and his buddies nowhere to
play. Therefore they decided that they would start their own tournament
in Rochester. Voila! the Return of the Robin was born. Norm and his
buddies started this tournament in 1982 and kept it going for 25yeas.
Norm is definitely worthy of the title The Father of one of the best
tournaments in the country Return of the Robin.

Keith is a known around the rinks as
a local ole’man hockey legend! He has been instrumental in
organizing many ole’man hockey leagues in the community, and has
been involved as a player or as a tournament director of the Robin
since the beginning. As the years went by and with them many of the
original robin core members… Keith has not gone anywhere. He was
there every year helping organizing and keeping this tournament
together through thick and thin. As with Norm he has been on skates
for many years and still going. He has tons of stories to share and
look for Keith to keep playing in this tournament for many years to
come. Thank you Keith!

Scott, or Sonnie, as most of the
local rink rats know him, has been involved with the Robin since
almost the beginning. Sunny is known as one of those “go to fellas”
and has given many hours out of his personal life for over 20 years
helping in any way to make the Robin tournament a success. Over the
years Sunny has been come to be known as the keeper of tournament
structure at the Rec Center checking players in and keeping the
peace. Sunny is a great hockey player and is definitely a legend of
the Robin.

Ron is the fella that many of
the younger Robin fans have come to love and appreciate! He is a true
Ole’man hockey player! He is a long time organizer of this tournament.
Moffiet is not afraid to strap on the goalie gear and fill in for hung
over goalies that do not show up for the early Sunday morning games. He
loves the game and his extreme passion for this tournament is seen and
heard in the beer circles that gather outside the arenas of the
tournament. A lot of the Robin’s yearly success and the preservation of
many Robin traditions and stories can be attributed to this fella who
likes to stay out of the limelight.

Terry is a true hockey rink rat. Nothing can keep this
guy… not even a busy profession, as deep hockey family life or even a
heart attack from eventually showing up at the rink. If there is an
ole’man hockey game going on at the local Four Seasons do not be
surprised if Terry shows up and makes sure the players are feed brats
and beer following the game. He has been one of the chief volunteers
keeping the flow of games and dealing with glitches at the Kasson Arena.
He is a HUGE promoter of girls and youth hockey and the ROTR committee
owes a lot of the success to Terry’s help
