HOW TO READ THE CONTENTION CHART

For some, the CONTENTION diagrams can be confusing. Hopefully the following will help you understand them better and not further your confusion.

The basic diagram for POOLS contains an images as at the RIGHT.

Team names in the POOL or Sub-Pool are displayed across the top boarder and the left margin. Notice one of the team names is not repeated across the top boarded.

Under the names on the left edge of the Contention diagram is a White Box with a number. This number represents the total points that team has earned so far in the tournament.

Teams earn points as follows: 2 points for winning a game, 1 point for tying a game, 0 points for a loss. Since most referees will resolve the games with a shot-out after a 5 minute over time. Most games will end with either 2 or 0 points. Shoot-out is the referees option.

The boxes with numbers in them  (Game #1, Game #2, Game #3) represent the games in the Pool. These are called GAME SQUARES

The teams playing each game are represented by the team names on the left and top boarder.

The white boxes contain the score for each team for that game. The top box for the team listed in the top boarder and the bottom box for the team on the left boarder.

The number in front of the top box represents the ROUND number. The entire process from registration to schedule and contention chart will soon be done totally by computer. The round number will be used when that process is completed. For this tournament it can be ignored.

The name of the POOL is located in the Header of the table where the pink area is.

Contention Chart

The Game numbers (Game #1, Game #2, Game #3) are only to identify the game in this pool. The date, time and location of each game is located in the center of game square

The small number to the RIGHT of the score box represents the number of points each team earned following the game. Again, 2=Win, 1=tie, 0=loss.
